'Generic' comes from the word 'genre'.
A 'convention' is a rather general or loose rule. It is what is normal.
Eg: It is conventional for us to wear our underpants under our clothes. It would be unconventional for us to wear them over the top of our clothes. So you can see that a convention is something that is usually done, a basic rule that most people follow.
Generic conventions are the basic 'rules' or normal features of a particular genre, or type of story. The elements or features you identified in question two above are actually fantasy's 'generic conventions'.
